Considering Folly of the Wizards for Nintendo Switch? This guide covers gameplay, the Standard Edition, and who should buy it.
Quick Answer
If you enjoy chaotic roguelikes with humor and high replayability, Folly of the Wizards on Switch is a solid pick, especially in its physical Standard Edition.
What Kind of Game Is Folly of the Wizards?
Folly of the Wizards is a 2D roguelike adventure that leans into chaos and comedy. You join a wacky wizard cult, cast unpredictable spells, and face bizarre enemies. The humor is a big part of the appeal, so if you prefer serious or tactical roguelikes, this one may feel too silly.
Because it's a roguelike, each run is different. Spells are unpredictable, which means you'll need to adapt quickly. This adds to the replay value but also means you can't rely on a single strategy.
Standard Edition vs. Other Options
The Standard Edition for Nintendo Switch includes the base game in a physical format. If you like owning your games or want to display them on a shelf, this is a plus. Digital-only players might prefer a download, but this physical edition is a good choice for collectors.
There's no mention of extra content or bonuses in the Standard Edition, so if you're hoping for art books or soundtracks, you may need to look elsewhere. For most players, the base game is enough.
Decision Rules: Should You Buy It?
- If you like roguelikes with humor: The game's comedy and chaotic spellcasting are core to the experience. If you enjoy laughing while you play, this is a good fit.
- If you want a physical copy: The Standard Edition gives you a cartridge for your Switch. This is ideal if you prefer owning games physically or have limited storage. Check that your Switch is compatible with physical cartridges—this works on all Switch models.
- If you prefer serious or tactical games: The unpredictable spells and silly tone may not appeal if you want deep strategy or a grim atmosphere. Consider a different roguelike.
